A question I get a lot at my talks and events: where do you meet women in New York?
It always seems like a silly question because New York is literally packed with attractive, interesting women everywhere you turn.
However, if you’re looking for something more specific than just “anywhere in the daytime” or “popular bars and clubs,” then you can get more targeted and niche.
There are two ways to look at the process of meeting women. One way is to find specific places/ situations.
And the second is to look at the bigger picture of where women like to be and the kinds of things they like to do.
Bars and clubs are one option to meet women. But there are tons of others too.
Specific Places to Meet Women
Here are just some examples:
- Dance classes
- Fitness groups and yoga studios
- Clothing and accessory stores
- Street fairs
- Cultural festivals
- Holiday parties/ events
- Food festivals
- Wine and beer tastings
- Music festivals
- Small concerts/ live entertainment
- Fashion shows
The key here is to not go “hunting” for women in these places. You will stick out like a sore thumb as the creepy guy who signed up for the class just to hit on girls.
Go to these events because you are actually interested in them or find them fun. Don’t do something you hate or are totally bored by just to meet women. That’s what bars and night clubs are for (just kidding… sort of).
What Women Like
Look at that list again and what do you notice? What are some common themes?
Women Like Food and Drink
New York is a city bursting with all types of cuisines. A girl is constantly tempted with delicious food. Reading women’s online dating profiles, you notice every second or third girl mentions her love/ obsession for food.
Women Like Physical Movement (dance, fitness)
Half the time, they like exercise because they like to eat and drink. They don’t want to get huge from all that eating and drinking.
And in general, attractive women tend to be health-conscious and take care of themselves.
With all the different cultures in New York, you are not lacking for any type of dance class: Salsa, Tango, Bachata, Swing, African, Indian/ Bollywood, Hiphop, Dancehall, Contemporary, Ballet, whatever.
Women Like Music
Concerts, performances, and pretty much any kind of live entertainment is good. There is live jazz in the West Village, rock bands in the East Village and Lower East Side, and plenty of events around Brooklyn to check out.
Big music festivals are also great for meeting people into the same kind of music or scene you are.
Women Like Parties
Parties and fun come in many forms. A Halloween event, New Year’s party, an ethnic or cultural festival, or many more, are all fun, unique ways to get out and socialize.
If there is alcohol present, people will be loosened up and more social.
Women Like Clothes and Shoes
Learn a few things about men’s and women’s fashion so you can have an intelligent dialogue about it for at least a few minutes.
Lest you think you might come across gay, most of you reading this won’t have that problem. And I know plenty of straight guys in the fashion industry or related fields that kill it with women.
What are the things that tend to not draw lots of women?
Just off the top of my head:
- Professional sports (sports bars, sporting events, etc)
- Technical seminars or training courses (especially in finance and tech)
- Casinos and gambling
- Fighting, boxing or strength training
- Men’s clothing stores
- Strip clubs
Of course there are plenty of women who love these things. But proportionally, there’s way more men than women there.
At a two-day Technical Analysis and Stock Trading course, maybe 10% of the room will be women. But at a Latin dance class, that number could rise to 60%. Think strategically.
